Ancient Bruises

Sigh...I feel like such a bad intern. I haven't kept up with my journal in weeks and now Ross is posting entries. What has become of me? Well, nothing much has been going on just me enjoying the world of XM as usual. I feel like I'm out of the loop on a lot of things though because all these emails are getting sent about respecting the artists. Well, I'd like to know what artists have come that seemed to have been getting badgered. I always miss the good stuff uggh...

One thing that I have to remember as an intern is to not over-extend myself. This is an important lesson to leann because while you may enjoy doing something (working with a wonderful staff at XM), you have to remember your other obligations. That other obligation for me right now is school. When you get a taste of what it would be like to not be in school, you can sometimes forget how important it is to get through school to enjoy a post-school life. So over this past week, I've had to make some changes with my schedule so that I'm not totally pushing school to the backburner, and I must say it has made a big difference.

Working at Xm you're lucky and priveleged to see artists almost everyday of the week, even though I always miss the people I want to see because I'm not working that day. Regardless, it's just cool to be able to get that chance to run into an artist in the hall and greet them or get the opportunity to see them perform in a more intimate setting than a big concert hall. It's not just the artists that you can look forward to seeing but being around others who share your passion for music and parts of the industry. Sometimes it's hard to get that in everyday life, but being apart of a corporation that is mostly about music is just a breath of fresh air. It can make you look at things differently, which could be a good or bad thing, depending on what view you get. Either way you get first hand experience and a front row seat that most people would die for.

XM Radio to me is one of the best companies around. True, I don't know that many companies, but you generally can get a feel about a company from its actions. This is the main reason I wanted to return to XM. I felt that here I could grow and get ready to go forward into a career.

So, I'm in the quality customer care department this go around, and while it definitely is not really related to what I want to do in the long run, it's helping me develop some skills that I will need as I do go into my chosen career. For one communicating with vast amounts of people. This department allows me to talk to people from around the world to get information and build a repore with them. Another thing is analyzing and thinking of ways to improve customer care. It's not really a no brainer but I feel that it will help me with some things in thinkinh outside of the box. Ican't wait to see what else I will have to do and other opportunities I will have as the semester moves on.

While I'm returning to XM Radio, I'm in a new department so it feels like a whole new internship. It was so good coming back the first week because I saw familiar faces and it made me realize how much I missed it that month and a half I was gone. I'm hoping to get a lot out of this internship and hopefully improve upon some skills that I want to. I got a brief intro into what it was that I would be doing throughout the semester, so we'll see how it goes...
